'FBI should probe': Jury foreman in Karen Read retrial blasts police for 'lazy work'

The presiding juror in the retrial of Karen Read has urged the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to conduct its own investigation into the January 2022 death of her police officer boyfriend John O'Keefe.

"There are so many holes that need to be filled. Now that the FBI knows Karen Read is not a suspect, something happened, and multiple jurors feel that way," the jury foreman (Juror No. 1) told the Boston Herald on the condition that his name be withheld.

The federal agency, he said, should "get justice for John O'Keefe," and called for locals to be kept away from a potential FBI inquiry .

"It was lazy police work… and we should start some type of investigation of what went on in that house," Juror No.1 said.

The remarks from Juror No. 1 come days after the jury, following a retrial, held Read not guilty of O'Keefe's second-degree murder. However, they found her guilty of driving a vehicle while under the influence, with a blood-alcohol level of .08% or greater.

Read's acquittal came after nearly a month of testimony and four days of jury deliberation. Prosecutors alleged that she murdered the Boston police officer on January 29, 2022, while driving her car drunk during a blizzard in Canton, Massachusetts.

Her retrial was held after the first one collapsed in July last year as the jury could not reach a verdict.
