Udaipur Files is based on the 2022 killing of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, Rajasthan — a murder which drew national outrage. Originally scheduled to release on July 11, the film ran into legal and censorship issues.
The makers announced the new release date - August 8 - after the Supreme Court, on Friday, refused to extend the stay on the movie's release, and directed those objecting to approach the Delhi high court for further relief.
The Delhi high Court dad earlier stayed the release despite censor board clearance, citing potential risks to communal harmony.
