Ruben Amorim will welcome his Manchester United squad back for pre-season training on July 7, where a brand-spanking new £50million facility will be waiting at Carrington. And while there will be a couple of fresh faces in the camp to match, the dressing room is also set to contain some players who may be surprised to return.
United's only high-profile exits so far, in a summer where they are crucial, have come in the form of Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof, and Christian Eriksen's contract expiries. Several senior players are in the shop window, and it remains to be seen what Amorim plans to do with those he has made clear don't feature in his project.
It's hard to imagine a reality where the likes of Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford waltz back into Carrington and start afresh.
Their strained relationship with the Portuguese head coach would make an absence on July 7 unsurprising.
There are other players who are likely to leave but remain in good standing with the club and will likely train with Amorim's group until they exit.
Antony is one of them, Rasmus Hojlund another, as is one player who has been disregarded by large sections of the fanbase - Tyrell Malacia.
The 25-year-old left-back was Erik ten Hag's first signing as United manager in 2022, joining from Feyenoord in a £17m deal.
But a long-term injury that left him sidelined for the entirety of the 2023/24 season derailed his Old Trafford career.
Malacia made his return with eight appearances under Amorim last term and understandably looked off the pace before returning to the Netherlands on loan.
His temporary stint at PSV Eindhoven was a success in the grand scheme of things. He returns to Manchester as a Dutch Eredivisie champion.
However, the fact that PSV opted against triggering the £8.5m buy option in his deal paints a picture of the individual level he found.
According to The Athletic, United are struggling to find suitors for Malacia ahead of next season. It's claimed there is no firm interest in the Dutchman.
Therefore, he is expected to report to Carrington on July 7 and play a role in pre-season with the rest of Amorim's squad.
Malacia likely has no future at Old Trafford, given Amorim splashed £25m to sign Patrick Dorgu as his first-choice left-wing-back in January.
Diego Leon is also arriving from Paraguay in July, while Harry Amass, Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot can all provide cover.
However, it is a summer where player sales were expected to be as tricky as they are essential for Amorim to clear space and generate funds.
And Malacia is one of multiple examples as that Carrington return date looms larger.
