A British woman's life is in danger after she disappeared in Greece while her husband was sleeping, according to a missing persons alert. Fears are mounting for Michele Ann Joy Bourda, 59, who was last seen on a sunbed next to her napping husband at Ofryni beach, Kavala, on Friday, August 1.
Ms Bourda's family alerted the authorities after her husband reportedly awoke to an empty sunbed with all of his wife's personal items still on the beach. The Greek missing persons charity, Lifeline Hellas, issued a Silver Alert on Saturday after police were unable to locate her.
The alert stated: "Her life is in danger. If you know anything, contact the Silver Alert service, 24 hours a day, at the National SOS Line 1065." Greece's Hellenic Coast Guard has reportedly initiated a sea search operation.
Ms Bourda was last seen wearing a two-piece swimsuit with rhinestones, yellow beach shoes, and red sunglasses. The 59-year-old is described as having straight blonde hair down to her shoulders, hazel eyes, and a slim build. She stands 1.73m (5ft 6in) tall.
It follows the disappearance of a 60-year-old British tourist while on holiday in Greece last month. His rented car was found abandoned in the Korfasia area of Avlonas, local media reports. It is understood that he had been staying in a rented room in Olympos, Karpathos.
According to security sources, a team of eight police officers with four vehicles, firefighters, and members of the Greek coastguard launched an investigation after the Brit's landlord informed authorities that she last spoke to him on the morning of June 27.
A British woman also disappeared from Almeria in Spain last week. Jennifer Frances Lacey, 41, disappeared from Vera on Monday, July 28. She is described as 5ft 2in tall, with curly brown hair, blue eyes, and prescription glasses.
Pending investigation, it is unknown whether she is a tourist or a resident.
The SOS Missing Persons Association has appealed for anyone with information about her location to contact them by calling (+34) 868286726 or emailing them directly. Those currently residing in Spain are advised to dial the emergency number 112.
