Christine McGuinness met Coronation Street star Colson Smith when competing on the show The Games, and their rivalry was as strong as ever during tonight's repeat of Celebrity Antiques Road Trip on BBC Two. When the episode began, former Miss Liverpool winner Christine warned Colson that her "blagging skills are unreal" ahead of their hunt for treasures.
However, Colson and Christine desperately needed the help of show experts Irita Marriot and auctioneer Hettie Jago while shopping through Cheshire before the all-important auction in Wakefield. One of the first items Christine purchased was a 17th-century leather jug, which she haggled down from £75 to £65. When Colson and Christine reunited later in the show after their antique sweep, it was revealed that the actor parted with £230 for his five auction lots. However, Christine splashed exactly £100 more than Colson on her five items.
One of her items was an artefact from the Roman era that had survived 2,000 years and was tipped to be a big moneymaker.
The auction kicked off with Colson's antique rotary knife device, which he purchased for £55. However, his team admitted they forgot to explain that it was a knife sharpener in the auction description, which left a mortified Colson saying, "Well, it's all gone wrong!"
When the item sold for £55, Colson turned around at the crowd and yelled, "You're all tight in here, aren't you?! It's a good job we've got the internet."
Moments later Christine's Art Deco bowl which cost her £120 was up for grabs and went for £190 to her relief. A furious Colson then turned around and asked: "What's going on?!"
The two contestants started to rile each other up as the competition intensified during the auction, and Colson was struggling to make any money. "Don't cry; it's OK," Irita told him.
Luckily, one of Colson's items did sell for a £40 profit, but Christine was reining supreme, with her Roman pot selling for an incredible £220.
At the end of the episode, it was revealed that Colson lost money while Christine made a profit of more than £100.
Reflecting on the results, Christine asked Colson: "You were so confident, what happened?" He replied: "I just have a certain style of things I liked and clearly other people don't like them I guess."
