Cameron Norrie was left in awe of Carlos Alcaraz, describing him as "unreal" after being defeated on Centre Court by the Wimbledon champion who is seeking a hat-trick of titles. Alcaraz, who claimed glory in 2023 and 2024, took less than an hour and a half to crush Britain's last hope with a 6-2 6-3 6-3 win, leading Norrie to declare: "His level was unreal.
"He is the favourite to win, for sure. "He is probably the best player in the world at the moment, the most confident player on his best surface. He makes it look quite easy because he's enjoying it so much."
Next, Alcaraz will face American fifth seed Taylor Fritz in the semi-final and is the favourite to secure his sixth Grand Slam title. He is also maintaining an impressive winning streak over the past few months and cheerfully stated: "It's a 23-match winning streak right now ... and I don't want it to stop there.
"I'm just feeling great, to be honest. That was my best match so far in the tournament and I'm just really happy to see myself improving after every match, each day. It's difficult to compare the level from the previous year but what can I say right now is just my confidence is really high, to be honest."
Alcaraz, who has won his last 19 matches at Wimbledon, now has a two-day break before he takes on Fritz in the semi-final. However, it won't be complete rest for the 22-year-old Spaniard - he is trying to set up a game of golf with British actor Tom Holland who was at Wimbledon today.
He explained: "There are some videos of him (Holland) playing golf. I would say he could beat me."
But I would love to play against him on the golf course. " For me it would be such an honour. I will try to set it up in these two days. So let's see if he will be available, and we'll tee it up."
