IND A vs AUS A: Shreyas Iyer's Struggles Continue as Four India A Batters Shine with Half-Centuries

Send Push

Shreyas Iyer’s comeback bid to Team India has hit another setback. Leading India A in the first unofficial Test against Australia A in Lucknow, Iyer once again failed to make an impact with the bat. The skipper was dismissed cheaply by spinner Corey Rocchioli, managing only 8 runs off 13 balls.

This follows a string of poor outings for Iyer. In the Duleep Trophy semi-final, he could only muster 25 and 12 runs in two innings for West Zone against Central Zone. With three back-to-back failures, questions over his form continue to grow.

India A batters shine despite Iyer’s failure
While Iyer struggled, other Indian batters stepped up to steady the innings. Wicketkeeper Narayan Jagadeesan top-scored with 64 off 113 balls, including seven fours and a six. Opener Abhimanyu Easwaran chipped in with a steady 44.

The middle order then flourished, with Sai Sudarshan (73 off 124, 10 fours) anchoring the innings. Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel added further stability, both registering half-centuries. At stumps, India A were strongly placed at 383/4, with Jurel nearing a well-deserved century.

Australia A post mammoth first innings
Earlier, Australia A dominated India’s bowling attack, declaring at 532/6. Their innings featured two centuries, leaving India A with the challenge of mounting a strong response.
