Police officer sneaks into Ryder Cup pretending to be Donald Trump's tactical security

A New York Police Department (NYPD) detective allegedly showed up at the Ryder Cup golf tournament in full tactical gear, claiming he was providing security for President Trump— all while reportedly on sick leave.

Detective Melvin Eng, now facing administrative charges for theft of services, may have successfully pulled off the golf course deception if he hadn't accidentally dropped his gun magazine in front of actual security personnel, law enforcement sources and NYPD records revealed.

One veteran officer expressed frustration about the incident, telling theNew York Post: “You’re out sick, so what are you doing at the Ryder Cup? That’s not acceptable. It’s theft of services because he entered for free and falsely claimed he was working for Donald Trump.”

Eng, 46, who serves as president of the NYPD Asian Jade Society, reportedly arrived at the event at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York on Friday dressed in full tactical gear, claiming he was assigned to security for the visiting president.

The fib granted him access to the high-profile tournament until he dropped his magazine and was promptly removed. Following the incident, Eng was suspended on Monday, as documented in NYPD paperwork.

“What if he intended to cause harm?” another police insider questioned. “He made it in with his weapon, bypassing the Secret Service and state police.”

When he was phoned by a journalist, Eng said, “I’m sorry, I gotta go,” and hung up.

The President of the United States, a huge golf fan who hails from the city, made an appearance at the Ryder Cup on Friday, jetting in via Air Force One to support his home country.

The commander-in-chief watched as Europe built up a solid lead on day one before extending it to seven points by the close of play on Saturday. All Rory McIlroy and Co. needed to do was take three points from Sunday's 12 singles matches - easier said than done.

Keegan Bradley's USA produced a spirited fightback to make it a nervy final session before Europe eked out victory amid the hostile atmosphere at Bethpage Black. The home team's fans taunted Europe's players with brutal chants and jeers all weekend, but they had the last laugh on Sunday.

Amid the celebrations, Team Europe's players gathered to send Trump a video message. With McIlroy holding the camera in selfie mode, they sang: "Are you watching? Are you watching? Are you watching, Donald Trump?"

Captain Luke Donald then raised the Ryder Cup towards the camera. Trump responded on Truth Social, posting: "Yes I'm watching. Congratulations."
