David Moyes concerns speak volumes as Everton transfer frustrations come to light

David Moyes has revealed his frustration at Everton’s failure to get deals over the line in this summer’s transfer window. The Toffees have signed four players - goalkeeper Mark Travers, midfielder Carlos Alcaraz, striker Thierno Barry and young defender Adam Aznou.

But Moyes reckons he needs two or three more signings before the window closes and has admitted it is a battle to convince players to come to Everton. “We all know we're needing a lot of new players,” said Moyes.

“Everton's such a big club, with great traditions, we've looked at what it's stood for over the years, and the new stadium's an exciting new move for us.

“But then when you have another thought and you think again about it, we've been in or around the relegation positions for the last five years, so when you look at it that way maybe there's been reasons for it.

“The fact of the matter is we've got to rebuild that, we've got to rebuild trust in people who should come to Everton and show them that the club's going in the right direction and we've got a new future now.

“We're all desperate to give the supporters something again, because we've had a lot of disappointments. Last year we finished really strongly and I know the fans are in huge numbers here in Chicago and support so many events from our side of things.

“So let's hope we can pull it together for them and get them a team to be proud of by the start of the season.” Everton have been linked with a move for Jack Grealish, who appears to have no future at the Etihad after he was limited to just seven Premier League starts last season.

Grealish was left out of Manchester City's squad for the Club World Cup this summer, with manager Pep Guardiola stating: “He had a conversation with the club and [we] decided [what was for] the best.

“Jack is an exceptional player. The only reason why he didn't play last season is of course my decision. We decide that he has to play. The club was honest, he was honest.

“Incredible love and respect [for him] and we decide the best is to stay [behind] and have a place [at home] that he can feel like he can come back to be the player like he was in the year of the treble or all his career in Aston Villa.

“Without him it would have been more difficult in the year of the treble [2022-2023]. The fact is in the last two seasons he didn't play much minutes. He has to come back to play and have the butterflies in his stomach that he can play every three days and show again the quality he has.”
