Mumbai Airport Customs Arrest 37-Year-Old Malad Woman For Smuggling Hydroponic Weed Worth ₹6 Crore From Bangkok At CSMIA

Mumbai: Mumbai Airport Customs officials on Wednesday arrested a Malad-based woman for allegedly smuggling drugs worth Rs 6 crore sourced from Bangkok.

Malad Woman Caught With 6 Kg Drug Haul

According to the Customs sources, in the wee hours of Wednesday, one passenger namely Jahanara Shamsi (37), travelling to India from Bangkok was intercepted after she arrived at CSMI Airport.

₹6 Crore Hydroponic Weed Seized

Search of her baggage was conducted, after which Customs officials found 19 packets containing hydroponic weed weighing around 6 kg valued at around Rs 6 crore.

"She admitted non-declaration, concealment, recovery and seizure of the narcotics substance fruiting and flowering-top of plant purported to be Hydroponic Weed concealed in her trolley bag," said a Customs source.

Smuggling For ₹30,000 Payment

Shamsi told Customs officials that she had agreed to indulge in smuggling for monetary sideration of Rs 30,000. The agency officials are now probing who had sent Shamsi to Bangkok, who had given her consignment of weed and who was supposed to receive the said consignment in Mumbai.

Customs Probe Deepens

"The preliminary investigation carried out so far in accordance with the law and the statement given by the accused disclose involvement of other persons who are yet to be traced. As the investigation in the case is at a very preliminary stage, efforts are also being made to identify and apprehend key associates of the accused," the official said.
