Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In a major stride towards sustainable, inclusive, and future-ready urban development, the Indore Development Authority (IDA) has approved a ₹500 crore riverfront development project along the Saraswati–Kanh river under the Government of India’s Urban Challenge Fund. The plan envisions not only beautification of riverbanks and infrastructure upgrades but also the structured rehabilitation of nearly 3,500 encroachments along the river’s course.
The approval was granted during the IDA board meeting held on Wednesday, chaired by divisional commissioner Deepak Singh. Collector Asheesh Singh, IDA CEO RP Ahirwar, and IMC Commissioner Shivam Verma were also present in the meeting.
The Saraswati–Kanh Riverfront project aims to transform the underutilised riverbanks into a vibrant urban space. In addition to environmental rejuvenation and flood control infrastructure, the project will also involve the resettlement of thousands of encroachments in a structured and humane manner.
To accommodate Indore’s rapid growth, the IDA board also cleared proposals for three new township development schemes, one on Dhar Road, another near the Economic Corridor developed by MPIDC on Pithampur Road and a third near the Bypass, adjacent to existing IDA-owned land. These planned townships are expected to boost housing and economic activity while supporting industrial expansion in surrounding areas.
