Zakira Underpass closed due to waterlogging, check alternate route amid Raksha Bandhan rush

Send Push
The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory after waterlogging forced the closure of Zakira Underpass, a key connector between North West and West Delhi. The disruption coincides with heightened traffic movement due to the Raksha Bandhan festival and the weekend, increasing the likelihood of delays and congestion.

Areas and commuters affected

The closure is expected to impact commuters from Ashok Vihar, Shalimar Bagh, Pitampura, and Adarsh Nagar (North West Delhi) travelling towards Patel Nagar, Karol Bagh, and Moti Nagar (West Delhi). With the festive rush, traffic congestion is likely along major roads connecting these localities.

Alternate route plan for Zakira Underpass closure

To bypass the closed underpass, Delhi Traffic Police recommends the following route:

  • Avoid Zakira Underpass

  • From Inderlok, take a left turn towards Road No. 40

  • Take a right turn towards Swami Narayan Marg

  • Continue on New Rohtak Road to reach Karol Bagh

  • From Karol Bagh, proceed to Patel Nagar, Moti Nagar and other destinations in West Delhi

  • Motorists are advised to plan their routes in advance and follow traffic updates to avoid bottlenecks.

Additional advisory: Azad Market Railway underpass also affected

Apart from Zakira, the Azad Market Railway Underpass on Ram Bagh Road is also affected due to waterlogging, leading to traffic disruption in the surrounding areas. The following diversions are currently in place:

    • Traffic from Rani Jhansi Road is being diverted towards Barfkhana

    • Traffic from Barfkhana is being diverted to Pul Mithai and Idgah

    • Vehicles from Pul Mithai are being redirected towards Barfkhana and Rani Jhansi Road

    • Traffic from Veer Banda Bairagi Marg is being diverted towards Old Rohtak Road

    Suggested alternate routes

Commuters can use Barfkhana – Pul Mithai – Idgah – Old Rohtak Road – Rani Jhansi Road to navigate around affected areas.

    Use of public transport recommended

To minimise disruptions, Delhi Traffic Police has advised commuters to consider using public transport. The Delhi Metro is fully operational and remains the fastest and most reliable mode of travel in the affected zones. Stations such as Inderlok and Karol Bagh are well-connected and can help avoid long delays caused by waterlogging on surface roads.

    Travel tips and instructions

    • Start early to avoid peak-hour congestion

    • Check real-time traffic updates before leaving

    • Follow directions from traffic personnel at diversion points

    • Use public transport options like the Metro where possible

    • Remain patient and adhere to traffic rules for a smoother commute

Delhi Traffic Police has requested all motorists to remain cautious, stay informed, and cooperate with traffic personnel deployed at key intersections
