Inspector Zende OTT release locked: When and where to watch Manoj Bajpayee, Jim Sarbh crime film

Manoj Bajpayee and Jim Sarbh have joined hands for a crime caper film - Inspector Zende. The makers officially announced that the film is all set to make its official debut on Netflix. The film titled Inspector Zende is inspired by real-life events. The announcement was made on Thursday, August 7, 2025, along with a quirky poster that hints at the thrilling cat-and-mouse chase at the heart of the story.

Directed by Chinmay D Mandlekar, Inspector Zende is set in the bustling streets of Mumbai during the 1970s and 1980s. The film revolves around the story of a fearless police officer, Inspector Madhukar Zende, as he tracks down an elusive and dangerous criminal who escapes from Tihar Jail.

Making the announcement, the makers dropped the first look and captioned, "Chor - police ka khel ab hoga shuru. Inspector Zende is now reporting for duty 🫡 Watch Inspector Zende, starring Manoj Bajpayee and Jim Sarbh, out 5 September, only on Netflix."




Manoj Bajpayee plays the role of Inspector Zende, while Jim Sarbh steps into the shoes of the clever and charming villain Carl Bhojraj, a character loosely based on the infamous real-life serial killer Charles Sobhraj, often referred to as the "Bikini Killer."

According to the official plot description, the film promises to bring crime and comedy together along with a fresh spin on the classic cop-versus-criminal story. Jim Sarbh’s character is known for his charm and manipulative nature, making him a tricky opponent for Bajpayee’s determined and relentless cop.

The film also ensembles a strong supporting cast, including Bhalchandra Kadam, Sachin Khedekar, Girija Oak, and Harish Dudhade in pivotal roles.

Speaking about the project, producer Om Raut shared that Inspector Zende was a passion project inspired by his father’s wish to see the heroic cop’s story brought to the screen. Raut has produced the film alongside Jay Shewakramani under the Northern Lights Films banner.

Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, Director of Original Films at Netflix India, described the film as “a gripping chase that flips the usual crime narrative on its head.” She praised Mandlekar’s direction for bringing a strong sense of place and realism to the storytelling.

Inspector Zende is set to premiere on Netflix on September 5, 2025.
