Taiwan’s EVA Air has been named the world’s cleanest airline for 2025, according to the latest rankings released by Skytrax, an international air transport rating agency. The ranking is based on global passenger surveys that assessed the standard and quality of cleanliness across aircraft cabins between September 2024 and May 2025.
The list, compiled through voluntary passenger feedback, reviewed cleanliness of seats, tray tables, carpets, cabin walls, and lavatories across more than 325 global airlines.
Asian airlines lead in in-flight cleanliness
EVA Air moved up from third place in 2024 to take the top spot this year. Japanese carrier All Nippon Airways (ANA) ranked second, followed by Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong in third place. A total of 13 out of the top 20 airlines are based in Asia.
A spokesperson for ANA said, “We believe a pristine cabin environment is fundamental to our passengers' comfort and peace of mind. We are dedicated to continuously enhancing our cleaning protocols to ensure every ANA journey is a pleasant and fresh experience."
ANA aircraft undergo nightly deep-cleaning routines that go beyond surface-level tidying. Cabin crew are also trained in mid-flight hygiene practices using the internal slogan “Let’s quickly wipe.”
No US airlines on global cleanliness list
No US-based airline featured in the global top 20. However, Delta Air Lines was recognized separately as the cleanest airline in North America. According to aviation analyst Gary Leff, “Currently airlines focus more on turning planes around quickly. When [aircraft] aren’t flying, they aren’t making money. So often there’s not enough time to pick up trash thoroughly between flights.”
Leff added that while pandemic-era cleaning standards raised expectations temporarily, most carriers have since returned to minimal cleaning between flights. “Planes are generally much cleaner than they were 20 years ago and probably no worse than they were in 2019,” he said.
