While Stree released in 2018, it was the 2022 horror-comedy Bhediya that kick-started the horror-comedy universe and with the release of Stree 2 in 2024, it became the most sought after franchise of Indian cinema.
So far, four films have released in the horror-comedy universe or Stree universe and interestingly Varun Dhawan has featured in three of those films.
He first starred in the titular role in Amar Kaushik’s Bhediya and then later made a cameo appearance in Munjya (2024) and in Stree 2.

Now, a new report has claimed that Varun will once again reprise his role of a werewolf in the upcoming horror-comedy film titled Thama.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar of Munjya and Kakuda fame, Thama was teased towards the end of Stree 2 and is a vampire comedy starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna.
Sharing details about Varun Dhawan’s cameo, a source told Bollywood Hungama, “Varun Dhawan has a lot more screen time in Thama, than in Stree 2. Even in Stree 2, he was a highlight and here, the makers have ensured that the impact of his performance is many notches higher. He shot for as many as 6 days, which clearly indicates how crucial he is to the narrative.”
The source further added, “Varun Dhawan plays Bhediya while in Thama, Ayushmann Khurrana is a vampire. The werewolf vs vampire enmity is a common trope for a long time. Blockbuster producer Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films has taken this aspect in his upcoming release. Aditya Sarpotdar has canned it in a massive way and the action sequence between the two is expected to be a visual spectacle in terms of VFX and scale. The scene was shot in March-April this year.”
It is expected that Thama will end with a massive tease towards Bhediya 2 which has already been announced for August 14, 2026, release.
However, reportedly, the film may get pushed from its earlier announced release date.
As for Thama, the film also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Paresh Rawal and is slated for a Diwali 2025 release.
