WhatsApp has launched a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) based feature, which will help you summarize your unread messages. This feature has been named 'Message Summaries'. It is based on Meta AI and helps users to quickly understand unread messages in the chat.
What is Private Processing Technology?
According to Meta, this feature works on a new technology 'Private Processing'. This technology claims that it prevents anyone, even Meta or WhatsApp, from reading the user's messages. If users want, they can use 'Advanced Chat Privacy', which can only create a summary of selected messages.
WhatsApp's Message Summaries feature
WhatsApp has given detailed information about this new feature in a blog post. This feature will be available in both individual and group chats. It is completely optional and will be turned off by default.
When the user taps on the 'Unread Messages' icon in a chat, a summary of the message will appear in a bulleted list by Meta AI. This summary will be visible only to the user and will have "Visible only to you" written on it. It has been made secure through 'Private Processing'.
Meta claims that in this process neither the AI chatbot nor WhatsApp itself can read your messages or their summary.
Where and when will it be available?
This feature has currently been launched in the US in the English language. According to the company, it will also be rolled out in other languages and countries by the end of the year. Meta said that Private Processing is a computing infrastructure based on a special Trusted Execution Environment (TEE). It allows users to interact with AI chatbots in a secure cloud environment.
