Tottenham player ratings vs Reading - Vuskovic, Kudus and Lankshear shine but Son and Bergvall rusty

Send Push

Thomas Frank kicked off his Tottenham Hotspur tenure with a 2-0 victory at Reading on Saturday afternoon.

The Spurs boss played a different team in either half at the Select Car Leasing Stadium and the opening period with Cristian Romero leading the team alongside players like Rodrigo Bentancur, Pedro Porro, Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson could not find a way through in a goalless period. The second half brought that complete change of personnel, with Son Heung-min leading the side. Within four minutes, Tottenham had opened the scoring when Mohammed Kudus hit an outswinging corner than Luka Vuskovic headed on and Will Lankshear nodded past the goalkeeper.

That lead was doubled when Kudus knocked the ball into the path of the marauding Vuskovic, who struck a perfect low shot into the bottom right corner of the net. The remainder of the half brought chances for both sides but neither could add to the scoreline, with some crowd trouble at the top of one stand late in the game.

Here are our Tottenham player ratings from the second half at the Select Car Leasing Stadium inFrank's first game.

Guglielmo Vicario

Tipped over one shot from distance and then made a good save in the final moments. 7

Djed Spence

Didn't get forward as much as he would like but did put in the header to Kudus that led to the second goal and got into the box late in the game and had a shot saved by the keeper. 7

Luka Vuskovic

Started nervously but really grew into the game and after heading on Kudos' corner to Lankshear, he hit a terrific low shot to score on his friendly debut. Also made a block in front of his own goal not long after. An assist and a goal on your first appearance in a Spurs shirt is a great way to kick things off. 8

Micky van de Ven

One sloppy moment when he lost his man but he also made a few good challenges. Had to be the experienced man alongside his teenage centre-back partner. 7

Ben Davies

The experienced Welshman was playing at left-back and after a shaky start he grew into the game back in his old position. 6

Lucas Bergvall

Some really sloppy moments with the ball in his first game back since that injury towards the end of last season. It wasn't all bad by any means but he will want to be better on the ball as the summer goes on. 5

Yves Bissouma

A classic Bissouma performance. Some good moments on the ball and some sloppy ones. 6

Mohammed Kudus

A really exciting debut from the Ghana international. He left players in his wake frequently with lovely touches galore. It was his corner that led to Lankshear's opener and then he played in Vuskovic to score the second. Went on a great run midway through the half down the touchline before picking out Donley on the edge of the box. Only early days against lower league opposition, but the winger looks to have bundles of quality to bring to this team. 9

Jamie Donley

Played some nice passes and had a shot deflected wide after Kudus found him on the break. 6

Son Heung-min

Looked very rusty with his touches at times and sliced one difficult effort well over the crossbar. 5

Will Lankshear

Nodded home with good reactions four minutes into the half to start his pre-season well. Didn't see too much of the ball after that but it's another pre-season with a goal for the young striker. 7
